I have been working at the Haags Gemeentemuseum for nearly 25 years . I have been moving somewhere around 1.000.000+ books in all these years and never…never…. seen this title before. I am an independent antiquarian bookseller for almost 20 years now and within these years i must have seen evn more books and never encountered this title before, so i did not know it existed, but it is there and it appears to be important too, because it is one of the first exhibitions which combines fashion and interior design over the ages and shows examples of each period. For those of you who did not know it existed. Here it is how it looks. The book is now available at www.ftn-books.com

weekly Piet Dirkx : SHALL I COMPARE THE TO A SUMMER’S DAY
This is a line from a Shakespeare sonnet . Piet Dirkx finds his titles everywhere and notes them on cigarboxes and Moleskine note books and this is probably one of the most illustrous of all. The work of art is also exceptional. The first time i saw it was at the first Piet Dirkx exhibition in the Ravesteijnzaal at the Haags Gemeentemuseum and this was the second work i acquired for my collection and never regretted it. It is long work of art , measuring aprox. 200 cm and its height being ca. 15 cm. The lat is tiles and signed and dated by Piet Dirkx. The work consists of 14 small paintings on wood , placed on a special lat.
Haags Gemeentemuseum..Nederlandse Beeldhouwkunst, 1951.
An exhibition from 1951, an important exhibition of which i noticed that many of the sculptures are now part of the permanent collection, but what makes this publication even more special is that it is a very large publication for those days. It contains 62 pages and…… a plan for the exhibition. I had never seen the publication before but the plan makes it even more special. It shows the importance of the exhibition and the scale must have been enormous for those days. It was so large that it needed a plan not to get lost. This plan is what i want to share with you, because it is very special. The publication is for sale at www.ftn-books.com or you can exchange this for the Erwin Olaf publication…Erwin Olaf – I am. A historic publication for a future collectible photobook.
(please note that the Gemeentemuseum was open in the evening too)
Rennweg by Rudi Fuchs (1985)
Rudi Fuchs (1984)
When i first learned that Rudi Fuchs would become the new director of the Haags Gemeentemuseum, i started following his career back and noticed some impressive exhibitions which were held at the Castello di Rivoli near Torino a modern art museum of which he was artistic director between 1984 and 1990.
The artists that he presented at that location were soon to become household names in the years he was director and head curator of the Haags Gemeentemuseum. The “Rennweg” book with art by Nitsch, Brus, Pichler , Attersee and Rainer was one of the first from the Castello di Rivoli that was available at the bookshop of the Haags Gemeentemuseum and now the circle is completed since i recently bought a” lot” at auction…all from the former library of Rudi Fuchs and within these…the RENNWEG catalogue which is now available at www.ftn-books.com
OSSIP (1952)…. a documentary
Just because personally i think that Ossip is one of the most important contemporary artists in the Netherlands and because he has an exhibition currently at galerie Ramakers, i want to share the documentary that was broadcasted yesterday on dutch television. It shows Ossip (Snoeck) and his father Jan Snoeck at work in their studios. They both have a very personal and authentic approach to their art and the universe Ossip creates and has created with his “sculptures”
is one of a kind. here is the link and ….enjoy.

Piet Dirkx, On four locations
There is a work by Piet Dirkx that has been with me as long as i know it existed. I first have seen this long multi colored wax painting in Piet’s studio. Later i noticed the same work being a part of BIOTOOP and after our purchase it was one of our favorite works by Piet on our Sijzenlaan location and now, it is still “going strong” as our entrance work of art. The painting has been a part of our lives for nearly 30 years now. Long live ” MUSIQUE ORIGINALE ”
Erwin Olaf (1959) exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag
What I want to show most of all is a perfect world with a crack in it. I want to make the picture seductive enough to draw people into the narrative, and then deal the blow.
