Marie Hanlon (1948)
Sometimes you must consider yourself very lucky. I have been writing on art and artists for almost 5 years now and during this period I have written blogs on many known and lesser-known artists. In the meantime selecting with these blogs those publications that are available through FTN-Books. In this way promoting the art, books and publications I am selling.
It must have been a month ago that I received an email by an artist I did not know. She introduced herself, spoke of the great selection of books I am selling and wanted very much to introduce her works. Her name …MARIE HANLON…. and she asked if I would like to take a look at her site….and so I did.
I am always intrigued by artists who I do not know, so I searched for her on the internet and found that she makes the kind of art I am fond of. It is a mix between minimal, constructivist, hard edge and even surrealistic art at some times. We wrote and agreed that it would be nice to make her works known with the help of the ftn-books.com site and ftn blogs and now I am proud to announce that her publications are available at www.ftn-books.com and that she made an artist selection of 4 drawings that are exclusively available through FTN ART at special introductory prices.

Marie was born in Kilkenny and studied History of European Painting and English at University College Dublin, at the National College of Art & Design/Dublin and has worked as a professional artist since 1990.
Known mainly as an abstract artist of finely made small and medium-sized works, Marie’s output in recent years encompasses a broader range of media. Through her collaboration with contemporary composers, she has developed new work, especially in video and installation.
Marlo Broekmans (1953)
I always have had an admiration for the photographs of Marlo Broekmans and sold her publications in the bookstore of the Haags Gemeentemuseum from the early 80’s. She is a master of lights and shadows and plays with them to enhance her models and subjects . This quality make her photographs stand out and make them recognizable at the same time.
The black and white photographs of her nudes are of a classic beauty and some of these were purchased by the Stedelijk Museum for their photography collection. In many of the photographs from the collection of the Stedelijk Museum, Marlo Broekmans is her own model , which gives these photographs an extra “:personal” layer and make them self reflecting documents.

Readers of this blog know of my admiration for Lawrence Weiner and this is the reason i want to share this very special invitation that i recently added to my inventory. It is the invitation for the Weiner exhibition from 1989 at Konrad Fischer . The invitation by the artist is a piece of art by itself. Making this a true collectable multiple by the artist.

Daan van Golden and Mick Jagger
At first sight an unlikely combination for the dutch Pop Art artist Daan van Golden. Still…van Golden made an hommage to Mick Jagger in 1967. The silkscreen was printed in an edition of 10 copies and is now sought after as being one of the most iconic of his works. It is a large silkscreen measuring 123 x 106 cm. and this copy of the Stadscollectie Rotterdam was acquired at the famous dDelta gallery who was at that time the representing gallery of van Golden. The image of the silkscreen was used in 1988 for the cover of the book published on the occasion of the presentation of the Stadscollectie Rotterdam . This book is now available at www.ftn-books.com.

The Lefebre Gallery was established in 1960 by John and Ljuba Lefebre at 47 East 77th Street in Manhattan, New York. John Lefebre became known for his photographs from the artist he presented, but the collection is from his exhibitions only.
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, “A Collector in Paris becomes an Art Dealer in New York” was based on the Lefebre’s’ personal collection, which included artists who were part of The School of Paris in the 1950’s. As Annette Michelson noted in her introductory text for the exhibition’s catalogue, “ There is an idea of a gallery –the almost ideal gallery- in which every painter represented, every painting, represents a personal taste, in which every canvas bears the mark of a private affection or of a passion (..) These canvases bear the stamp of a milieu (Paris), a period (the post-war years) and a particular sensibility; all have matured together.”
From this inaugural exhibition, the Lefebre Gallery established a reputation for mounting important exhibitions of post-war European art. Lefebre was the only American art dealer to represent Cobra artists such as Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky, Corneille, Christian Dotremont, Carl-Henning Pedersen, and Reinhold. Other artists represented by the Lefebre Gallery included Horst Antes, Pol Bury, Julius Bissier, Klaus Fussmann, Hans Hartung, Serge Polikoff, Antonio Segui, Wallasse Ting, among others.
The gallery closed following the death of John Lefebre in 1986.
