Ad Petersen and Anthon Beeke

Here is one of the most cherished titles i now also can offer on www.ftn-books.com. I now have two sopies of which one becomes for sale. This is special for me. It shows the importance of Ad Petersen as a curator for the Stedelijk Museum and it shows the many contacts he had with world famous artists. He kept and collected the envelopes of the artists he corresponded with and among them many were art themselves, being true ” Mail art”. Studio Anthon Beeke recognized this and published together with Anthon Beeke and Ad Petersen a selection of over 60 envelopes and published these in the book  EEN KLEINE VISUELE KEITELING. The design of the book and the collection of envelopes is sublime. Making this one of the most cherished books in my personal collection.

Allen Ruppersberg (1944)

Allen Ruppersberg and the Netherlands is a combination which feels natural. It is a little bit the same like with Lawrence Weiner. Both were supported by Willem Sandberg and had their first major exhibitions outside the US in the Stedelijk Museum and after?……they kept a strong link with the Netherlands since both were represented by the Art & Project gallery who published with both important Bulletins within their series of Bulletins. Both these artists are considered by many as the next worldwide greatest, since Conceptual Art is becoming more and more important in time and admiration for these two is growing significantly.

I like both , but perhaps i more have a weakness for Weiner since his work at the Gemeentemuseum was present all the time i was working there and it never stopped impressing me. But Ruppersberg….. certainly a close second and perhaps in the long run i will like him even more. www.ftn-books.com has soem of the mentioned Ruppersberg items still available.

Viktor IV (1929-1986).. washed ashore in Amsterdam

From 1961 until his death Viktor IV lived in a boathouse at the river Amstel in Amsterdam. Almost like a clochard but not secluded, because during his life he kept a very keen eye on the art scene around him. This resulted in one of the most fascinating oeuvres of any modern artist. Building his works from lost and found material washed ashore wooden panels he developed a sign language which was typical for Viktor IV, including a new way of looking at time with his BULGAR watches. Roughly his artistic life can be divided into 3 parts. The first being the making of his ICONS, the second his sign language the RUNES and thirdly the JOURNAL pages he drew almost daily.

Kho Liang Ie ( 1927-1975) and dutch design

It was the late 50’s and early sixties that a new generation of dutch designers stood up and almost all of them have been of great influence on corporate, furniture and book design all over the world. Kho LIang Ie was one of them. Less known than Sandberg and Crouwel , but still one who’s influence on design is still there. As i understand Pastoe is still making his couch C653, but not only furniture was designed by Kho Lian Ie.

He designed complete exhibitions and ofcourse some beautiful catalogues  of which some are available at www.ftn-books.com
