Anton Pieck… LEVEN EN WERK

Schermafbeelding 2019-08-01 om 14.57.19

If there is one Anton Pieck title i can truly recommend, it is the LEVEN EN WERK book from 1973. Numbered edition and it contains so many impressive examples of Pieck his art.  admire Pieck for Efteling designs, but where he impresses is his calssic scenes of carriages, fairs and domestic scenes. These are the ones which are collected all over the worls and this is probably the reason why i have sold this book to many parts in the world. the most distance was Tasmania, but copies from my shop were send to the US, Canada, Japan and Australia. Unfortunately these books are harder to come by each year, but now , after a couple of years ifinally found another one at the Bookmarket. This copy is now for sale and i am happy to tell you that this is the best copy i have ever had. www.ftn-books.com

Lewin Alcopley (1910 – 1992)

Schermafbeelding 2019-01-09 om 13.37.11

Do not make the mistake i originally made. Lewin Alcopley and Al Copley (cply) are 2 completely different artist where CPLY is rooted in the Pop Art scene. Alcopley is the more abstract artist and rooted in abstract expressionism.   I now have added one of the rarest of his publication to the inventory of www.ftn-books.com. It is a book published in a roman numbered edition by galerie Parnass in 1961 and one of only 65 roman numbered copies which contains, beside 32 prints in black on white paper, a beautiful and impressive lithograph used as special cover. Book in slipcase and signed by the artist and author. Numbered in inkt. This book is numberXXXIX from LXV This book is very special and an absolute must have for the serious Alcopley collector.

Jan Voss (1936)… more complex over the years

Schermafbeelding 2017-09-01 om 11.38.35

I have seen developing Jan Voss’s work over almost 4 decades now and with each new decade and exhibition, it looks to me that his works are getting more complex. The fundaments of his art are the same , but he squeezes more elements in the same drawing/painting. Brightly colored these are a joy for me to look at, but unfortunately for Voss, his work was only noticed by some curators in Belgium, France , the Netherlands and Germany and outside these countries his work is hardly known. It is in these countries his admirers can be found. For decades, Jan Voss has experimented with various different techniques, materials and groups of works. The underlying theme in his work is creating order in the midst of a perpetually moving chaos of complex situations – chaos and order, construction and decay of uncertain situations, similar to the conditions that exist in everyday life. Today, this state is bombarded by a number of signs and meanings which also play a major role in Jan Voss’s art.

There is one publication i would like to mention and which is of course available at www.ftn-books.com. It is the catalogue Jan Voss made for the Haags Gemeentemuseum, NADRUK. The exhibition was curated by Gerrit Jan de Rook and the book that was published with this exhibition was a true artist book of which the original edition was only 1000 copies, but i know for a fact that over 600 copies were destroyed, because they could not be sold. The remaining part was sold over the years at Sales and other special occasions. This artist book from 1984 is completely designed and filled by Jan Voss. A book in which he gives his Voss interpretation of the collection of the Gemeentemuseum. For those of you that have an interest in Voss, now is the time to pick up his works and books , still affordable and a great investment for the future.

Ko Verzuu (1901-1971) , the force behind ADO (wooden) toys

Ko Verzuu ( 1901-1971) had a technical background and with this background he designed and developed wooden toys from 1925-1962 for ADO. These toys were produced in the workshops from the Berg and Bosch hospital and were influenced by  ” de Stijl” which Gerrit Rietveld promoted in those days. Primary colors in relation to clear and straight lines and these characteristics found their way into the ADO toys. The wooden bank is such an example. …..Blue and Yellow in a small designed wooden bank, which could be an element of the Rietveld Schroder Huis in Utrecht.

Verzuu designed these toys with their playability in mind and tested them with his own 11 children to be sure that these were the ultimate wooden toys

The BESTELDIENST in this blog comes from a limited edition of only 250 copies. All with certificate. This was a “prestige” project by ADO from some 15 years ago in which they showed their history and expertise in wooden toys. Made and painted by hand , all numbered this was made in two editions/ A yellow one , which was specially made for the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag in an edition of only 50 copies and….. the one in the picture made in an edition of 250 copies. It was about 12 years ago that SWZ stopped production of all ADO school furniture  and other ADO products and this ended all other ADO projects to be made in the future. The remainder of the banks, beetles ( yes, another special product to be discussed in the near future) and the BESTELDIENST were bought by FTN and were sold on special occasions and on eBay. Now the stock comes to an end and the only place that these will be sold is at www.ftn-books.com.

These last copies  ( all mint, numbered with certificate and original ADO box ) can still be picked up at a fair price.

The quality is superb and these pieces are highly collectable.
