My personal bookcase

boekenkast personal

I have had questions in the past….what is your personal interest in books?…. and…..you must have a very nice collection after so many years of being a bookseller. These questions and remarks can be answered simply. I have a large inventory of about 10.000 books that are for sale including some very nice and hard to find titles, but every book in my personal bookcase has a small story attached to it. There are books of exhibitions being held at the Gemeentemuseum while i was a publisher/bookseller at that museum and some were given to me by artists i collect.

About half of the books in my personal bookcase are very small publications related to the artists in our art collection and the remainder is about the artists i like very much and admire. I can say that none of them is very valuable, but for me these books are valuable and important, because they belong to the publication history of the artists i admire. Curious?….just “zoom in” on the picture and discover that of many of these titles i have multiple copies available at www.ftn-books.com. So make this your personal interactive blog and find/discover the titles at www.ftn-books.com

Piet Dirkx weekly… Parbleu

Schermafbeelding 2019-03-31 om 11.56.32

Parbleu is the famous remark when this comic character makes a remark to his fellow compagnion Tom Poes. This is also the tile by one of the small objects by Piet Dirkx from our collection. Parbleu was made in 1994 and has been in our collection since.

As promissed another detail which shows the thick layers of wax paint Piet uses to make his compositions. This painting was discussed earlier in another blog on Piet and has been presented on 3 locations before it finally was part of our collection. Among the locations was the Biotoop project at the Haags Gemeentemuseum.

Piet Dirkx weekly

The following weeks two more details of early Piet Dirkx compositions. The first is a detail of a long lath on which 13 wooden panels are placed. These panels are far from random ,because these panels are individual compositions/paintings by themselves.

These panels come from the work SHALL I COMPARE THE TO A SUMMERS DAY.

Piet Dirkx weekly

Here is a lesser known part of the art by Piet Dirkx. Every item that was on show is documented on the object itself by Piet Dirkx. Here is an example of the first object i ever bought at galerie ‘t Venster. These 3 cigarboxes are numbered and described how they must be placed on the lath.

Piet Dirkx weekly…. ZANNETTI

With this ZANNETTI name i found two items. The first was cheese flakes with the name of the producer Zannetti. The second is a brand name for exclusive watches. Bot have no resemblance at all with the art work Piet Dirkx presented with the name ” ZANNETTI”. it is a multi colored small beam with an egg hanging underneath it. . Long and lean , i found it very appealing when i bought it and since, it always has found a place in our homes. Here is ZANNETTI from 1994/1995

weekly Piet Dirkx : SHALL I COMPARE THE TO A SUMMER’S DAY

dirkx shall i compareThis is a line from a Shakespeare sonnet . Piet Dirkx finds his titles everywhere and notes them on cigarboxes and Moleskine note books  and this is probably one of the most illustrous of all. The work of art is also exceptional. The first time i saw it was at the first Piet Dirkx exhibition in the Ravesteijnzaal at the Haags Gemeentemuseum and this was the second work i acquired for my collection and never regretted it. It is long work of art , measuring aprox. 200 cm and its height being ca. 15 cm. The lat is tiles and signed and dated by Piet Dirkx. The work consists of 14 small paintings on wood , placed on a special lat.
