Without knowing, many people have encountered work by R.W. van de Wint. The large vertical paintings in the dutch National Assembly are paintings by R.W. van de Wint.

RWVDW will become increasingly imortant for dutch art because  he bought a piece of land in the year of his death , meaning to turn this into a outside museum in which he and his friend artist could develop their works in an outside situation. Much like Ian Hamilton Finlay intended to do in the same your 2006. he also died in the year he started his developments, but there is a difference too. The Dutch municipal government of Den Helder embrased the plans and is now building a nice compact museum beside the sculpture garden.  The building is delayed because of the pandemic and the park/garden is not open yet, but this will be our first museum visit after the museums reopen. A great initiative and i can only recommend the park because personally i consider sculpture gardens among the most accessible and high valued cultural desitinations.

On the first initiative, Arlette Brouwes designed this “bidbook” for the Nolen project in 1986. The idea is now 35 years in development and soon, the project will have been completed. Meaning a start for a collection of which RWVDW must have dreamed a very longtime.

Arno Nollen (1964)… a very special publication.. REGARDE

nollen ftn b

Here is a seldom offered and rare publication by Arno Nollen. Arno Nollen is certainly now established as one of the great dutch photographers, but at the time of this publication he was a “rising star”. “Regarde” is one of the first publications by the Annet Gelink gallery. The book Regarde is sold out, but a few gallery copies are still sold at the gallery for euro 150,–, but……… This is not the ordinary copy, but a very special one. Book is signed and numbered and published in an edition of only 25 copies, packed and protected in a special container/book cover. Made of carton and wood this cove protects the book and the book includes an original photograph by Arnold Nollen( loosely inserted).

The photograph, book and container are all signed and numbered with corresponding numbers. All are in excellent condition. This makes the Arnold Nollen a rare offering. This special publication available at www.ftn-blog the FTN art section

Here is a short bio on Nollen for those who do not know him.

Arno Nollen (b. 1964) is a storyteller. His work is exploratory and revolves around photo series; he is not interested in single photographic images viewed in isolation. His repetitive series, sometimes almost devoid of variation, inhabit a grey area between film and photography. The repetition triggers an unconscious process of association, comparison and recall and evokes emotions that range from fascination and excitement to disgust and discomfort. The end result is to prompt the viewer to imagine his or her own narrative. To present his images, Nollen uses a variety of media, including books, video, prints and installations.

Among Photographers…. Fieret, Nollen, Dijkstra, Breukel ao, isbn 9789086900817

Ask me …what is the best publication on dutch photographers from the last generations. The answer must be AMONG PHOTOGRAPHERS . Published by Veenman in 2007, this book contains the very very best in dutch photography. The cover is striking with the portrait of Fieret by Koos Breukel. Almost a surreal approach to a portrait but so recognizable as being a Breukel portrait of the famous Gerard Petrus Fieret. This is a rare occasion that i can offer this book at www.ftn-books.com . This and other tiltes  on the dutch photography are available at www.ftn-books.com

Paul Kooiker – Hotel New York

The first time i saw work  by Kooiker was about 15 years ago and he never stops to amaze and surprise me. His first exhibitions were with Willem van Zoetendaal in Amsterdam and during that time he was first presented as one of the upcoming and leading photographers in the Netherlands. Together with Arno Nollen he was considered to have a highly original point of view on contemporary photography and because of his subjects ( young and older women ) he was presented in an exhibition in the Fotomuseum together with the godfather of this kind of photography…. Gerards Petrus Fieret.

The book on Hotel New York was printed in a very small edition and is one of the nicest collectable photography books i have encountered in recent years. Beautiful publication which was presented to the residents of Hotel New York Rotterdam as a reminder of their stay. Text and photography, design and printwork all are excellent. Hard to find….. but still available at www.ftn-books.com
