Gary Hume (1962)

The first Gary Hume original i ever saw was the Momart Xmas special he made in 2000. Momart published FUZZY SNOWMAN in an unknown sized edition. But I immediately recognized the quality of the multiple and the artist. Since i have been following his career.

“The snowman is an image to which Gary Hume often returns. His screen print Snowman of 1996 presents a bold orange and brown snowman ‘aglow against a soft sunset pink’. The painting Snowman of 1996 was a brown and red snowman against a rich blue background. Fuzzy Snowman [the present work] is icier with two white circles on a cool blue ground. It is a do-it-yourself artwork with a fuzzy ground an detachable felt pieces. For Hume the snowman is a self-portrait. It is seen from behind, looking toward the horizon and wholly dependent on the season. … With thanks to Honey Luard at White Cube … [and] Mandy Chubb at Fuzzy-felt.”

Publications on Hume are scarce and now i finally have the most important one added to my inventory. It is the Matthew Mark gallery publication which was made for his Kestner show in 2004.

It took me over 15 years to finally add this one , but this is well worth collecting and still at a reasonable price available.

Mark Wallinger (1959)

The first time i took notice of the works by Mark Wallinger was when i learned that this artist was presented at the Tate modern and that Saatchi took an interestb in the artist. The second occasion was when i actually owned a true signed Mark Wallinger. Nothing very special because it was a Christmas Momart edition but still an original work of art signed by the artist himself.

From that time on i occasionally encountered works by him, but never in the Netherlands, because to my knowledge non of the larger museums have works by Wallinger in their collections. Still there must be an interest for this artist because when you compare the black and white eighties paintings by Armando there are quite some similarities to be found in use of color and composition

Nevertheless for more books and publications on WALLINGER and the late ARMANDO please visit www.ftn-books.com

Lucian Freud “Momart edition”, 2003

Each year, for over 30 years, an artist, with whom Momart has an established relationship, has been invited to design a limited Christmas card edition for Momart’s clients. Since then they have been lucky to collaborate on this project with many of the top British and international artists including Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Gary Hume, Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst and especially the Freud edition has rose to mythic proportions. A printed card which was designed by the artist himself and making this one of the last works of art in edition Freud has made before he died in 2011.

The card is now sought over by collectors and Freud enthousiasts worldwide and www.ftn-books.com has one for sale.
