All artists were member of the FIGURATION LIBRE group and have gained world fame in the decades after this exhibition. What makes this catalogue special is that it is the only copy currently available on the market and from an art historical point of view. It presents these artists for the first time together in one of the major museums for modern art. Beside that a text is written by Ben Vautier ( Fluxus) who was and is an admirer of the Figuration Libre. This i the only copy i have available and it is very special , since the condition is excellent and it is dedicated to Riekje Swart who was the first to present these Figuration Libre artists in the Netherlands.

Francois Boisrond (1959)

The lesser known artist for us in the Netherlands is Francois Boisrond. The Groninger Museum has some works in its collection, but according to my information this is the only public collection with works by Boisrond, but for the french he is very well known. also with a highly recognizable style he made himself a name in the FIGURATION LIBRE.

Inspired by comics his works developed in a period of 15 years in a complete other direction. His paintings lost their spontaneity and were much more painted in the classical tradition. Still Boisrond is important for Modern Art and the catalogues that http://www.ftn-books.com has now available show the quality of Boisrond his earliest works.

Robert Combas new additions

combas and pieters

The final blog on the “Figuration Libre” presents two important new additions to my inventory. Both are related to each other. The first is the Guy Pieters catalogue from 2003 in which he presented the latest paintings from 2002 and 2003 and the second is from 2005 from the Museum Jan van der Togt. The museum made a choice from these recent paintings and added, many paintings from the decades before to this great retrospective.

Both are now available at http://www.ftn-books.com and belong to the best publications on Robert Combas

Jacques Monory (1924)

Monory

Jacques Monory is “world famous” in France, but outside France he is hardly known by anybody. Not many works are to be found outside France and if one is encountered it rarely is in relation with the Figuration Narrative of which mouvement he can be considered as one of the founders. The works that can be found outside France are almost always in relation with international Pop Art scene. In the seventies Monory had a nice exhibition in the Stedelijk Museun. In which he presented paintings with the subject New York….title of the exhibition VELVET JUNGLE / N.Y. a Wim Crouwel designed catalogue. ( catalogue is available at www.ftn-books.com ) But despite his commercial focus on France , time acknowledges the talents and qualities of Monory and his works are now presented all over the world. Recent auction results prove the importance of this typical French artist who was frequently neglected in the last 40 years, but now finds his way to the collections of to the true connaisseur.
