One of the more classic sculptors in the Netherlands. She is probably the most well known sculptor from the last century. Possibly the reason is, that it is believed that she gave lessons to the young Princess Beatrix , who is a gifted amateur sculptor herself and has always admired van Pallandt.
For me van Pallandt stands for one of the very best catalogues the Stedelijk Museum has ever published and Eja Siepman van den Berg, who was the first to win the Charlotte van Pallandt prize for sculpture. van Pallandt is a classic sculptor and a great technician, but besides her fantastic technique, i always get the same feeling when i see her sculptures. I am a little bored. Great for a first look , but when studied for a longer time i loose interest where as the sculptures by Eja Siepman van den Berg grow on you and with every possible angle and lighting the sculpture shows itself differently and fascinates. Better judge for yourself…..On the left a van Pallandt portrait , on the right ” stapje” . by Eja Siepman van den Berg.

One exception… the statue by van Pallandt of the former Queen Wilhelmina…almost abstract in its approach, but the outline and posture are certainly that of Wilhelmina. See it from a distance and it is an abstract blur, come closer and it is Queen Wilhelmina determined to lead a small country.
www.ftn-books.com has some publications on van Pallandt available including the mentioned Stedelijk Museum catalogue.
The year is 2000 and Queen Beatrix is invited as a guest curator for the exhibition DE VOORSTELLING to be held in the Stedelijk Paleis op de Dam . The place where each year the Koninklijke Subsidie voor de Vrije Schilderkunst is presented . Her “right hand” is no less than Rudi Fuchs the director at the Stedelijk Museum who helps the Queen with her choices and presentation.
I am not a great fan of our Royals, but i always have had great respect for Queen Beatrix and her love for the arts and i am convinced that she is very knowledgable about art, art techniques and with that background could make some great choices for her collection. ( a.o. Eja Siepman van den Berg and Andre Volten ). This time it was for real and one could see her personal dutch favorites within the exhibition. To accompany the exhibition a more than nice catalogue was published which is available at www.ftn-books.com.
Another and exciting small exhibition to be opened in Projectruimte Hoofdstraat 17 has just been announced . 3 artists will be presented in conjunction which each other. The homebase of Eja Siepman van den Berg gives room to 2 other artists. This time Riki Mijling and Armando will be the guests. Mijling is the least known of these three, but works are present in the most important and prestigious collections, Caldic, DSM , Zadelhoff and the British museum among them. Armando needs no introduction and is known for his participation in the NUL and Informelen mouvements. Personally i think his Berlin years are his strongest period with the beautiful and impressive Fahnen and Tree paintings. And last there are the sculptures by Eja Siepman van den Berg. Each time i visit the Projectruimte Hoofdstraat 17 i notice how excellent they blend with the works by the other artists. An exhibition to visit in the coming months.
Opening on the 27th of November 2016 and closing on Sunday 26th of February 2017.
Last Tuesday we visited once again the studio of Eja Siepman van den Berg. In the gallery we visited an excellent and beautiful exhibition by Aubertin, Schad and the sculptures of Eja and to complete it …..a fantastic surprise lunch. We were joined by Roland Janssen and discussed the possibilities of presenting some of the statues on our site which will soon be live. Yes ,within a few weeks www.ftn-art.com will be “live”. Including a selection of the sculptures by Eja Siepman van den Berg. To get some impression of the sculptures that will be presented and which are for sale we made a pre selection of 3 sculptures. Any purchase of these sculptures will be accompanied by me personally and i will escort you to the studio of Eja Siepman van den Berg to meet the artist and show you the other works by Eja Siepman van den Berg.
