It must have been around 1990 when I first heard about Reinoud van Vught. Not because I saw work of him, but because during that period I met marc Mulders and because of a publication we were selling by Mulders in which the other painters of the Tilburgse School were included I, for the first time, some work by van Vught. (Geelen, van Dongen and Zuurmond are the other painters from the Tilburgse School).

What makes van Vught and Mulders stand out for me is that their works from a distance are realistic, but…..come close by and they transform into pure abstract works of art. Powerful, paintings and drawings. In these works, many natural elements find their way into its composition. Flowers, branches, animals and birds are present. The tree trunks and branches have found their way in a series of oil paintings on paper which was presented at the Museum ‘t Coopmanhus in Franeker in May/June 2000.

An impressive series which catalogue is now available at www.ftn-books.com

de Tilburgse School, Delta Lloyd 2002

Another short blog on one of the most important art collectives in the Netherlands. The importance of the “De Tilburgse School” school is growing more and more by the year. Marc Mulders , Paul van Dongen, Guido Geelen, Reinoud van Vught and Ronald Zuurmond are recognized as being of great importance to dutch modern art. Some years ago i wrote another blog on DE TILBURGSE SCHOOL , explaining their art was rooted within religion, but more and more they are liberating themselves from religious themes. The catalogue which was published by Delta Lloyd on the occasion of the 2002 exhibition shows this in an excellent way. The catalogue is not that thick. Only 28 pages , but it is a beautifully designed book by Maarten Meevis, printed by the quality printers of Lecturis, Making this a highly collectable and important exhibition catalogue.

de Tilburgse School is the tile of a book with text by Geurt Imanse, former curator of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. De Tilburgse School has proven to be one of the most important new groups of Modern Art painters in the Netherlands.

Who are members of the Tilburgse School?. ..The painters that form this group are :

Marc Mulders, Reinoud van Vught, Guido Geelen, Paul van Dongen, Ronald Zuurmond.

Personally i think Marc Mulders is one of the most gifted painters in the Netherlands and his works always fascinate me, but do not neglect the works from the others…. in many cases they are equally interesting.

What makes these painters stand out? …true craftmanship and the search for new ways in expressing themselves and it shows in the books i have on all these artists at www.ftn-books.com
