One of the dutch pioneers in dutch video and film art is certainly Frans Zwartjes. He is known for his experimental form of movie making. Somewhat psychedelic and always with a different camera point of view. Let his art speak for himself and look at SPECTATOR from 1970

There is a nice book available at www.ftn-books.com which was published on the occasion of Zwartjes receiving the Ouborg price.
Personally I find it an art form which is hard to understand, but sometimes there are Video installations which i appreciate. For instance the Erszebet Baerveldt ..Requiem is one of the most fascinating video’s i know ( search it on Youtube). Gary Hill’s video’s are more direct. In many cases filmed at close range with an intriguing voice over make these video’s very direct. They are not beautiful but highly intriguing and once you have seen them you will remember them.
It is not easy to find publications on Gary Hill and even more …is a book a suitable medium to promote a video artist?..i do not think so, but what makes the publications on Gary Hill i have at www.ftn-books.com worthwhile is the way these are published and designed. Great collectable books on a great video artist.
First of all aq uote by Peter Weibel…GÜNTER BRUS, An observer of the second order, he explored the contexts of body and painting, the body’s social and sexual functions, the social and cultural functions of painting. By treating painting and body as a single system, and by analysis of these media of expression, he ultimately pursued an anatomy of society and its social systems.”
It was one of the first artists Rudi Fuchs introduced to the collection of the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and since that occasion , GÜNTER BRUS fascinated me. Specially his drawings are my favorites and 2 years ago i saw some movies by Brus in Vienna in an exhibitions on Aktionismus. Self mutilation does not make this an easy art form, but fascinating it is. You do not have to watch the video, but for those interested know that this is not a pleasing art form and could be shocking to some. There are some more examples to be found on you tube and for those interested in Brus, know that there are some nice publications available at www.ftn-books.com

One year ago it was since a very long time i encountered a work by Erzsebet Baerveldt. Searching for more exhibitions, works in public spaces and collections stayed without any results. But during this search i encountered the video she made in the early 90’s…REQUIEM. Since this video was made, only a few more works have been made by her and for over a decade now…..total silence. So i inquired with her former gallery and i was told that mrs. Baerveldt possibly had joined a convent. What rests is this moving project. Which consists of this video and 1 gallery sold photograph.
