As promissed another detail which shows the thick layers of wax paint Piet uses to make his compositions. This painting was discussed earlier in another blog on Piet and has been presented on 3 locations before it finally was part of our collection. Among the locations was the Biotoop project at the Haags Gemeentemuseum.
The following weeks two more details of early Piet Dirkx compositions. The first is a detail of a long lath on which 13 wooden panels are placed. These panels are far from random ,because these panels are individual compositions/paintings by themselves.
These panels come from the work SHALL I COMPARE THE TO A SUMMERS DAY.
This is a line from a Shakespeare sonnet . Piet Dirkx finds his titles everywhere and notes them on cigarboxes and Moleskine note books and this is probably one of the most illustrous of all. The work of art is also exceptional. The first time i saw it was at the first Piet Dirkx exhibition in the Ravesteijnzaal at the Haags Gemeentemuseum and this was the second work i acquired for my collection and never regretted it. It is long work of art , measuring aprox. 200 cm and its height being ca. 15 cm. The lat is tiles and signed and dated by Piet Dirkx. The work consists of 14 small paintings on wood , placed on a special lat.
What about Diaphane? Diapahe means delicate, so for me it means that the colors are carefully chosen and a re complementary to eachother. It is one of those works of art that never bores . Easy to find a spot for it, bringing joy just by being colorful.
There is a work by Piet Dirkx that has been with me as long as i know it existed. I first have seen this long multi colored wax painting in Piet’s studio. Later i noticed the same work being a part of BIOTOOP and after our purchase it was one of our favorite works by Piet on our Sijzenlaan location and now, it is still “going strong” as our entrance work of art. The painting has been a part of our lives for nearly 30 years now. Long live ” MUSIQUE ORIGINALE ”
This week i am making up for an incomplete blog . I just noticed that to make the story on last weeks blog complete i had to add the photographs of the inner sides of both objects which were on show in the Piet Dirkx exhibition at the van Abbemuseum in 1985. Pier had indicated on the inside of both boxes in what way both had to be combined and showed. So to make the story complete here are both insides.
One of the two recent editions was an object by Piet Dirkx which figured in the van Abbemuseum exhibition of 1985. With tnis exhibition a small catalogue in an edition of 500 copies was publihed. This catalogue is available at www.ftn-books.com
