I am fascinated by the art of young Korean artists and this resulted a few years ago in a purchase of a large painting by Jungwook Kim which is still hanging left from my desk and is a constant pleasure to look at and admire. Another Korean artist is Atta Kim. A Korean photographer who’s photographs are almost in every case presented as a project.
THe only book i have by Atta Kim is ON AIR but this publication has every quality to become a classic in the world of photography books. His works have a dreamlike quality and fit perfectly in the art which come from South Korea these days. On “you tube” there is a short film on this book and you can have a very n ice impression of a Atta Kim publication when you watch this 3 minute video.
The ON AIR book is available www.ftn-books.com
It is now almost 2 years ago that i acquired a beautiful Korean painting at auction by Jungwook Kim for our collection, but beside the origins and original purchase place of the painting / Gallery Skape in Seoul and its original purchase price, it is impossible for me to find more information on the painting or the artist. My question is …who can help?
I need the following information.
- A complete biography of Jungwook Kim
- has anybody photographs of this artist and if so at work in the studio?
- have there been museum or gallery presentations in Europe or US beside the Berlin and Istanbul ones?
- Are there US or European museums that collect work by this artist
Any help and information is appreciated. Thank you….
A few months ago i had the fortune to have the winning bid in auction for a large Jungwook Kim painting. ( see the above picture of my office)
Since, i have been trying to find publications on this artist….so far none. This painting was originally sold at the Skape gallery in Seoul, who now know of its present whereabouts, but i am still looking for books, folders and information on this wonderful work of art.
Who can help?……….
It is not the first time i notice that there is a strong and lively artists mouvement in Korea. Lately at another auction i noticed another great work by Kang-Ik-Joong. An artist i did not know of either. But what a wonderful works he makes. becoming rather expensive now, but many of these artists must be on the verge of their international breakthrough. Will Korea become to new “China”for art collectors?
