Loek Grootjans (1955)

In his body of work, Loek Grootjans reveals himself as both an artist and a collector, a scientist and an archivist. In various forms, he thematizes his personal experiences, thoughts, and worldview with a meticulousness that borders on obsession. One of the artist’s underlying ideas is that thinking in terms of top-notch and masterful works is no longer relevant. He previously abandoned painting, his first love, due to its association with mastery.

Helly Oestreicher (1939)

Amsterdam is the place where Helly Oestreicher resides and works. Her education was at the renowned Rietveld Academy, where she also took the role of an instructor for numerous years. What distinguishes her artwork is its distinctiveness and modernity. You won’t find any landscape paintings or portraits of individuals within her studio. Furthermore, she deviates from the conventional materials typically used by artists, such as wood, stone, or bronze. Instead, she employs self-molded glass, porcelain, or clay as her base materials, all created within her own oven. Occasionally, she incorporates pre-existing discarded materials like iron nuts, tree bark, or seashells, giving rise to entirely new creations.

www.ftn-books.com has 2 important Oestreicher publications now available.

Among the many many titles on art and design that i now have for sale. Quite a number is designed by Toon MIchiels, who was the ‘House” designer of the Avenue magazine. Beside his designs he was also known for his documentary photography, often combining both disciplines into a very personal publication His publication on a farmer couple in Brabant, ” ZELDZAME MENSEN”, was such a publ;ication . The publications got critical praise and the photographs reminded people of the farmer scenes they knew from the van Gogh paintings.
