Although he began his career immersed in informal painting and literature, he eventually forged a distinct artistic identity, buoyed by his associations with the Azimuth collective\u2014where he authored numerous essays championing the avant-garde movements of the era\u2014and his close ties to contemporaries like Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a formative stint in Argentina during the early 1960s, where he moved away from conventional art-making to immerse himself in theoretical inquiry, he returned to his native Italy to launch a sophisticated new chapter in his career. From this point forward, his output\u2014spanning tactile “portraits” rendered in felt and “axioms” executed in bakelite\u2014revolved around complex performance and physical works.
