Throughout his career, Bochner has relentlessly examined the established norms governing both art and language, surfacing the latent structures that shape how we perceive and interact with them.

Having completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1962, Bochner relocated to New York City two years later. He quickly immersed himself in the era’s most significant creative shifts: the established Minimalist movement, spearheaded by figures like Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, and Dan Flavin, and the burgeoning Conceptualist scene, in which Bochner would eventually serve as a central architect.

His seminal 1966 exhibition at the School of Visual Arts, *Working Drawings And Other Visible Things On Paper Not Necessarily Meant To Be Viewed As Art*, is recognized today as a cornerstone of early Conceptual practice. During that same period, Bochner began exploring photography, producing significant works such as his 1967 entry *36 Photographs and 12 Diagrams*, displayed at the Dwan Gallery. By 1969, he had achieved further acclaim with the debut of his iconic *Measurement Room* at Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich.

www.ftn-books.com recently added the PHOTOGRAPHS 1966-1969 book to its collection.

A foundational figure in Conceptual Art, Mel Bochner is widely credited with integrating linguistic elements into visual expression across a diverse range of media, including painting, installation, photography, printmaking, and drawing.
