Born in 1925 in \u0141uck, Ukraine, Edward Krasi\u0144ski relocated to Warsaw in 1954, remaining there until his passing in 2004. As a prominent figure within the Eastern European avant-garde of the late 20th century, Krasi\u0144ski explored various disciplines, including sculpture, painting, happenings, and installation art. His significant contributions are well-represented in the holdings of the Kontakt Art Collection of Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation, and his portfolio has been showcased at prestigious global institutions such as MoMA in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and Warsaw\u2019s own Museum of Modern Art, among various other galleries and foundations across Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central to his legacy is the common adhesive tape he introduced to art history, famously known as “Scotch tape.” Krasi\u0144ski first utilized this medium in the 1960s in a rural setting near Warsaw, wrapping the tape around trees and fences before expanding his practice to encompass apartments, complete exhibitions, and entire architectural structures. Even following his death, this signature blue band persists as a symbol that imposes an idealized quality upon a space, transcending its pragmatic utility. Positioned at a constant, precise height, the tape creates a linear constant\u2014a mental benchmark against which the evolution of events and processes within the space can be gauged.
