If there is one title which has become one of the most sought after ones i have in my inventory it is Constant’s New Babylon/ The Hyperarchitecture of desire.
The book originally published in 1998 for the Witte de With exhibition , was sold at the occasion of the restoration of the New Babylon models by Constant. It took almost 5 years, but after that restoration period, these very important and visionary models could be presented again in all their glory. With the exhibition the Gemeentemuseum sold the book by Mark Wigley and because of its price almost guilders 50,– we did not sell many copies and eventually the book was part of a sale in which the book was sold for less than euro 12,–
But after that “low”, the stature of the book changed. It was described as one of the best architecture books on the market and i received orders from all over the world because in architecture lessons and classes it was described as one of the key publications in the field of visionary architecture. At one time i even bought a box of these books and sold them within a few months. But things have changed. No longer you can find copies and whenever one is offered it is at auction where it fetches a high price ( plus costs ). Still one copy remains in my inventory at ww.ftn-books.com
What is possibly not known to many is that they have visited one of the masterpieces by Henry van de Velde in the past. The architecture of the Museum Kroller Muller was done by van de Velde after the family Kroller Muller turned down the sketches and plans by both Mies van der Rohe and Berlage. The new building was necessary for them to present their extremely large collection of van Gogh paintings. Later this collection has become the fundament of their collection which included highlights by many other contemporary artist, but the van Gogh’s are in most cases the reason why visitors from all over the world visit this museum in the forests of Park de Hoge Veluwe.
van de Velde designed a beautiful building with spectacular views on the surrounding forests and sculpture park. Later Wim Quist designed the necessary annex building , because the collection had grown too large for the old building alone and the museum was in need of an extra exhibition space for large objects.
Beside architecture van de Velde was a multi talent who designed everything. From wall papers to kitchen were all was executed with an exquisite taste.
Another discovery… This poster is rare. It was published in 1993 by editions Cicatrices and according to my knowledge the only print on this great work by Ben Vautier. The work was recently restored because age had deteriorated it too much to exhibited it without damaging the work.
But the poster was made in the early nineties for the Musee National d’Art Moderne and because of its size it shows the true quality of the work by Ben. A feast and an excellent way to represent the work in 2D. It is available at www.ftn-books.com

These pages with the daily blogs on “books and art” needed some changes. I had to give the “Piet Dirkx daily” a more prominent spot, the place it deserves and made a new and better focus on FTN art . I found a better template and layout and because of that the items which are for sale are far more easy to access. A search option for blog and art is now included in a much better place.
The new blog site will be changed and adjusted in the coming weeks. I have to find out what works best and how to make it better, but for the moment ….enjoy!
PS. I am sorry if i published some test versions and you were wrongly notified for the new blogs published.
Today is another milestone for me as a bookdealer in art books, because today i started on these pages ………FTN art

Are there any works of art that justify an auction result/price as much as the recently sold “assumed” Leonardo da Vinci painting?
Imagine what you could do with an amount as large as 450 million USD. There are so many within the world of arts that are suffering financial problems. Starting artists, experimental theater companies, dance companies and of course orchestras all over the world, not all…., but many could be helped with a substantial sum and if you do not like the arts, what about hunger, water projects and small micro finance projects? I can think about dozens of projects other and far better than buying an ugly painting like the “Salvator Mundi” by Leonardo da Vinci.
